Binary Thinking - a hex on IT management

When Alan Turing was developing his ideas about computing he was not constrained by the binary number system so why has IT management become so cursed with Binary Thinking?

A Turing machine works with arbitrary symbols and tokens and there isn’t a limit to the number of symbols a machine can use. Deep inside computers and other electronic devices binary is an incredibly valuable design model and we wouldn’t have our fast, robust and cheap gadgets without it. Unfortunately binary thinking has made its way into lots of other parts of IT where it is much less useful or even down right dangerous.
